I don't like the folio covers personally. Editions de minuit and Gallimard are not bad though

I love the format of Editions de Minuit, I love the font. They'll publish me but they don't know it yet.

book prices are fixed in france, so books are like 3 euros each, with cheap prices you must compete with all the other suckers and make your book as beautiful and attractive as possible.

Because the texte, in our country, is still more important than the fashionability of the objet.

80% of my books are Folio and Livre de Poche tho and it gets old, but you can't beat their price and ubiquity on the used market.
English editions are not all bad, I like the few Penguin Modern Classics I have. They do seem to be less floppy and thus prone to back breaking though, like the few NYRBs and Alma Classics I got my hands on.

>>24521839
The cheapest classics are actually 5€ and the standard pocket book is now more like 7€60 and up to 10€. New releases in big format are 20-27€

These are tiny. For Wuthering Heights or Notre-Dame de Paris you're at 8€ in Folio. Livre de Poche is cheaper but the print is terrible. Lonesome Dove at Gallmeister is 13€ (it's still a pocket book).
My Brilliant Friend in folio is 9€.
The Road by McCarthy at Points is 9€.

It's not terrible all things considered, but I almost exclusively buy used nowadays. These books were all 6€ when I grew up.

I forgot to say that you can find some insane stuff used, too. You're looking at Maupassant, I found his complete short stories at Bouquins (30€ new) for 2€ lmao.

I just checked, I lied, it's only the first volume. I was sure I had Bel-Ami in there though. It's the older edition, this new one looks nice though. Yours is Quarto Gallimard which are extra floppy and nice but the font is not the most comfortable.

I love Bouquins, their covers are waterproof and the smell is top notch. This bad boy has to be my favorite of all the books I own.

Why can't America have cheap paperbacks anymore? That's what Penguin classics were originally, but now they're expensive. And Signet is as pricey as full paperback.

This shit sells for like $30 in America because of shipping. It's really fucking annoying, and used bookstores rarely have a good selection of French novels. It's either Camus or Le Petit Prince or French textbooks. Occassionally you find a hidden gem from some obscure or forgotten French author. So yeah, Fuck French sellers on AbeBooks and Amazon. They charge an assload in shipping PER BOOK even if you order everything from one seller.
