What am I in for? Should I go for the Paperwhite version or the least expensive one?

Paperwhite. You'll miss not having any lighting once its gone. Its soft and easy on the eyes. Other than that bro, theres nothing to know beyond what you know the device does. Library Genesis for your books; you'll want mobi but can work with epub, you just need to convert them using calibre.

Kindle is too locked down, even if all you want it so transfer your epub library to it.

I mean you can’t turn it off. Gonna’ read through some old paperbacks? Well your kindle will be asleep, and will drain to nothing in about three weeks. You can actually turn off your Kobo, then come back in a year and it’ll still be almost full.

Coming up for 13. Battery still holds a charge, and the only difference (aside from newer ones apparently supporting epub) I've noticed with newer models is the.. I'm not sure how you'd word it, fluidity? of changing pages. Neither of which warrant buying a new one to me.

If you can't install koreader (an e-reader software) it's hard to justify buying one. I just bought the newest kindle but it was a very risky and very rare buy: it had to be used, yet it had to be not registered or connected to the internet for at least a few months. Because if you are in version 5.18+ you won't be able to jailbreak it. New batches are already updated to 5.18, so avoid yourself the trouble and get a Kobo.
>>24526358
Too bad, but the e-reader's software makes or breaks your experience. I wouldn't get an e-reader that doesn't have koreader.

What are the benefits? I don't highlight anything, save quotes, annotate, whatever. Just display my shit and let me swap the page. How does it accomplish that better?

Since Koboniggers arent selling Libra 2 anymore you might try searching on secondhand markets for used devices. Its battery is replaceable btw, frame is easy to open, get an identical chink battery from AliExpress and just solder 2 wires.

Current Kobo options are trash: 6 inch tiny toy and 7 inch colorshit for pathetic weebs.
Paperwhite is both cheaper and better. With jailbreak it becomes 100% yours, say goodbye to jeetware like Calibre.

Better dictionaries, search back or forwards function, location back and forth buttons on the corners (when following TOC, searches or footnotes, this can make you go back and forth better than a physical book). You can also have a manga extension like tachiyomi/mihon for android. And you can add gestures for rotation, fit to width, crop to content. The latter are a MUST to read manga or PDFs, whatever where the content is fixed. And you can adjust contrast too, if the PDF or manga lacks blacks or has too much contrast.

Basically for me, it goes from clunky to move around, to match and exceed of going back and forth with a physical book. And it makes reading fixed form content like manga or PDFs perfect, which I thought was otherwise dumb to do in an e-reader.

First of all do not listen to this retard >>24526332 and get a kindle. kobo and its derivatives like boox and pocketbook are a chinesium garbage that will slow down in a year and even the oldest generation kindles are snappier than them and last decades longer. Nobody has a 10 or 5 year old kobo thats still working and usable, my kindle is coming up on its 8th year and its as good as new. As to which kindle to get for me kindle basic 2022 is the best ereader ever made but if you want the warm night light feature get the paperwhite. Turn on airplane mode permanently and use calibre to send books through usb. Get the books from anna's archive. Thats it, its that simple.

Of course there is. Just Google it or look on YouTube. There's also a guide on ifixit (screen replacement).
The battery seems to be using a connector, so you'll have to buy an identical one with the same connector, or get someone to resolder old connector onto new battery.
Before trying to open the reader I would find a guide or a forum post (on mobileread, reddit) that matches the device and where some battery marking is visible. Thus you'd be able to see if batteries like this are even available for purchase.

You can send books through your local network w/ calibre. NOT through the Amazon web server - directly to ereader. Kindle shit can't do that.
Also, Kindle does NOT read epubs. The only way to read epubs on Kindle is to send them through glownigger webserver. They convert epub into .kxk or some stupid shit proprietary format and only THEN you can read your file.
Amazon also deletes your books and changes book covers for ads without your consent. Oh and I hope you love watching ads for the latest booktok slop every time you lock your screen. Koreader can change lock screen to anything btw.

You must be stupid to buy Kindle. I have 10th gen paperwhite, it fucking sucks without a hack.

No it can't. You can't just send books on your Kindle through local network, using direct connection. Do you even understand what I'm saying, tech illiterate nigger?
You
Need
To
Send
Your
Books
Through
The
Remote
Server
Through
The
Email
Address
In
Order
To
Send
Your
Books
To
Kindle
You
Can't
Just
Create
A
Server
In
Calibre
And
Connect
To
It
Only
With
The
Hack
And
Koreader
You
Can
Is it more clear to your tiktok normie brain? Why do I even bother, normieniggers like you should buy Kindle and then pay 10 dollars more to remove ads cos you don't know any better.

You also don't control your margins in kindle and forced to read with a huge empty space around text. You don't control shit in kindle, it controls you.
Imagine bragging about using cables in 2024 for file transfer.

>>24528927
>use calibre to 'send to device'
It automatically converts your epubs, ruining the whole layout in the process, losing built in fonts, turning tables into mess, etc. I have kindle, I know what I'm talking about.
