My problem with this book it's that it's all nobles, lords and ladies making the calls. Why can't there be common folk involved and be important to the story? Really kills my immersion. Makes me think GRRM is just a cuck to the royal family.

Best you'll get is Davos. I can't see High Sparrow riding high forever. You can hope Littlefinger comes out on top but it's doubtful. He was also a minor noble to begin with. After that it's really just the Brotherhood without Banners. I think most of the Night's Watch characters are nobles too. Very grim, GRRM.

Read the Gesta Danorum, the type of original text that influenced the fantasy genre. It’s constantly praising the nobility and denouncing the commoners, and throughout the book, one of the most heroic acts one can commit is the prevention of marriage between the two. That’s the original material which authors have to work with. The old stories were written by bards who were funded by kings, to write about kings, and so it’s about the kings that we know the most about.
