Ugly pieces of shit, hate ’em.
The Penguin Modern Classics are 100x better.

Agree I put them all in the little public book box when I decided I wanted a nice looking shelf. A fourth of the cover is just black it's stupid

I agree they're not beautiful, but they're one of the most readily available when it comes to more obscure stuff. I feel like the nice looking, tasteful designs are only for the real normie-tier literature. If it was between Penguin and nothing when it comes to some stuff, I'll take Penguin. Also, the design could be a lot worse. At least it's consistent

if they're cheap make get classic literature available to the masses, that's the most important part. go buy a hardback edition if you want to wank with it on your bookshelf

They're fine. I don't buy books to look at the cover. Well sometimes but only if they are somehow funny.

Not really, no. Wordsworth and Collins are way cheaper. They have roughly the same price as Oxford, but with worse book quality.

The modern series is the same thing, just with a pale green spine though, so I don't get why you prefer them?

I don't like large series that have the same design. If you get a bunch of them clustered together on a shelf, it creates a black (or pale green) pit. At least vary the spine color like NYRB if you need to stick to a consistent design.

I like Penguin Classics Deluxe aesthetically, but some of my copies are pretty fragile, especially the larger books.

The modern classics have way better covers in most cases, and the turquoise spine with black text looks a lot better than black spines with orange and white text. The creases also aren’t as prevalent. They still aren’t ideal though.

in the UK they're the cheapest you'll find by far plus availability. without going to a large bookshop or specialised one, every small chain bookshop will have at least a small section of penguin classics
