Most of the modern world rejected religion, so what higher purpose do they believe in now?

It just feels like there is a massive vacuum on this subject, and society as a whole is just trying to ignore this fact. If you can truely disconnect from modern society for a second, this is a big problem and its so obvious.

Celebrities and stories created by their PR teams. People massively underestimate how much influence PR has on the world. You can do anything if you sell it with the right story.

Doesn't exist.
Morality is hanging off of thin air and has for the most part been abandoned, at least by governments.
Ethics, on the other hand, is instilled through social pressure and enforced using economics by way of violence- or just pure violence, sometimes.
There is no contemporary higher purpose, it's just the instinctive urge to survive and, if possible, live at a higher quality of life and/or reproduce, as driven by primeval instinct. There, I saved you reading a bunch of essays.

"Be a good person to avoid pain" isn't a higher purpose.
"God was bored so he made the world" doesn't actually imbue your life with meaning.
I'm not saying Religion is wrong or unnecessary

I'm saying at its most fundamental its teachings are no more meaningful than baseline humanistic atheism because it's still a matter of preaching pain avoidance and not much else.
