Fitzgerald's self-admitted goal was not translation accuracy, but to create an enjoyable poem to read. So he often adds variation to Homeric formulas to avoid repetition, for instance:

>And the great master of invention answered
He's not as extreme as Pope, but his main focus is the same - beauty above accuracy. And I say he succeeds, whenever I compare excerpts, his translation often seems the best to me.
