Why do /lit/ards always take about translations rather than about the actual works? Do you understand that images are chosen for exemplary illustrative purposes? I didn't even read it in English.

Golding is awful. He crams filler into every line to make the meter work. There’s a reason it was out of print for centuries. Look at this flabby crap:
>She gapte and gazed in his face with fixed staring eyen
>As though she never had him seene before that instant time.
>So farre she was beside hir selfe she thought it should not bee
>The face of any worldly wight the which she then did see.
I hate fourteeners in English. Always end up reading them to the tune of Auld Lang Syne

translations matter, the hermeneutical problem can't be passed over as if it was nothing. Why do you think Heidegger believed we can't understand Aristotle at all, no matter if we read the "original" manuscripts? I like to think that's the reason why /lit/ focuses on translation, but the real reason is probably some retarded pseud-posing.

Is there a better translation poetically speaking? Dryden didn't translate all the books

Explain how anyone is able to remember all of this. There are so many characters, places and different stories involved here.
