What version should I read? I think there is a full version, like 1000 pages, and an abridged version of 400 pages.
Wich is better? What will I miss?
I already read the abridged version several years ago, but I want to read it again.

If you remember liking it, I would go for the full version, and then if you feel like it's dragging a lot, then switch to the abridged. You should also read Idylls of the King afterwards. That's my all-time favorite take on Arthurian legend, along with the poem Sir Galahad. Also check this site out I love looking at all the art and illustrations they have on here https://d.lib.rochester.edu/camelot-project.html

Reposting a post on what edition to read of this book:

There are different ways of being complete. I’ll show you what I’ve found, as I was also interested in reading it. The parameters are unabridged (U), annotated (A), and original spelling (O). Different publishers sell different things. If something doesn’t have a parameter it means it’s the opposite, ex. if something is not O that means it’s modernized spelling, if something is not U that means it’s abridged, if something is not A that mean it doesn’t have annotations.

Norton critical edition: U - A - O
Modern library edition: U
Oxford worlds classics: A
Penguin classics (2 vols): U - A

Those are the most relevant editions I could find.

Try get picrel. It has everything he ever wrote in the original middle English. It even has the Tristan Romances he wrote that are often neglected by most editions.

I have to say I found Malory heavy going, but I still think it's better to either read him in full or read someone else, rather than read him abridged. Abridged texts are the devil’s work.

I heard someone say that the unabridged version is full of entire pages just naming random knights, is that true?

Yes. When they go into battle there are long descriptions of who is leading which battalion and the people in that battalion.

Thanks, this is helpful. As much as I love the novelty of old english I prefer books that won't make my kids super confused with spelling lol
