>>24532534 (OP) Becker's The Denial of Death is worth mentioning. Half of it is psychobabble but it hit the spot for me as a youngster. His way of writing and stringing together a semicoherent argument was pretty satisfying, from what I remember.
Natural Born Cyborgs is another interesting cog read that tries to explore the broader purpose of our biology or whatever.
>>24533248 Yeah you kinda have to have a boner for Freud and that type of pseudointellectual culture critique, I have no idea how I'd feel about it if I read it now. His thoughts on the "hero" paradigm were very memorable though.

>>24533391 Becker's book is hugely derived from stuff by Otto Rank, from what I remember. He was quoting Rank every other page. I tried looking Rank up on project gutenberg but I didn't find anything that seemed worth reading.
And yeah, stuff like Foucalt probably has more intellectual rigor and depth compared to Becker's one-off book

>>24533248 Beckett is okay when he shows some restraint. His best work are his plays which are largely mininmalistic and don't attack the literary senses of his readers endlessly.
