Because they spend all their time viewing people from a bird's eye view and humans have an innate negative bias.

idk, what evidence is there to suggest there are many? even if there were, why would that be significant if most werent? theres a number of random people who would consider themselves missnthropic

>Why are so many professional athletes sex addicts?
>Why do so many cops beat their wives?
>Why do so many soldiers have trouble readjusting to civilian life?
idk, have you tried thinking about it for like two seconds?

I noticed this IRL as well. It's definitely not a baseless stereotype. Kitchen workers do heroic amounts of blow given how little they earn. I have no idea where Anon was going with that though.

Because they're withdrawn, neurotic introverts who resent the ease with which other people live their lives.

I don't know that they are. Some are. And some non-writers are, too. Are you saying that a much higher % of writers are misanthropes than non-writers?

It's easier to judge how many writers are, because writers tend to write down how they feel about things; non-writers don't.

Anyway, if what you say is true, here's one possible cause:

Writing is a solitary activity. You are more likely to want to be solitary if you dislike people.

Yeah, I've read something about it being a thing. Not sure why, though.

Maybe cocaine sharpens your sense of taste or something?

More like the opposite; it's a local anaesthetic. Cocaine numbs your entire face when snorted. Can't smell anything, can't taste anything.
