people tend to believe that reading is some sort of self-help more than writing.

the amount of "what book solves X problem in my life" threads far outnumber writing as self-help threads.

If it makes the Dionysian patterns of my life fun enough to endure another 30 or 40 years of this, even another 20 wouldn‘t be the worst thing ever, then yeah it can save me. Just not in the way you‘re suggesting.

I don't write to save myself. I write fanfiction to save characters who weren't fortunate enough to receive happy endings.
