One of the greats of the 20th century. Unfortunately a little underrated today.

Agree, not everything he wrote is GOAT material. But enough to where its criminal he's pretty much forgotten today.

>Hunger
Not that great a story. Mainly an interesting read because it's "weird" and because Hamsun's writing style is top level (I read the original)
>Mysteries
I got halfway through and felt that nothing had actually happened, so I quit
>Victoria and Pan
Rather short and really nothing special
>Growth of the Soil
Charming story about a simple life in a rural place that slowly becomes more developed as more people move in

tried hunger a few times, aborted because quite honestly it's not very interesting. everything else i've heard about him makes him sound like a brainlet so i doubt i'm missing much.

Hunger should be required reading for any artist/writer

Ludwig Hohl says he's the kind of writer, in contrast with Balzac, where you read a couple of his books and don't feel the need to read anymore. I felt that way, so I can't comment on his broader work, but Hunger and Pan were very good basically perfect. The problem with Hunger is its a book about a writer. Weinginer said Pan was perhaps the most beautiful novel ever written... I have no problem with that judgement

We know why this is, desu. Same thing happened to Ezra Pound.

He's not forgotten at all, neither is Pound. It doesn't matter if he isn't mentioned in "the New Yorker", and actually he probably is, that Knaussgaard guy has been promoting him

His August trilogy is his best work.
If you've read his letters from America and his travel to the Caucasus mountains it makes perfect sense that he sided with the only non-materialist ideology in ww2.
His sassy comments on Norwegian polar explorers are also funny.

SULT is very very raw.
I can see why a lot of people empathized with it, even Hitler(a starving artist in AustriaGermany for the period)
