The /v/ equivalent might seem to be clearly Xenogears because it also went wildly over budget and had to turn the final third into exposition, while also being about giant mechs.

It isn't thought. It's Chrono Cross, because that also went wildly over budget and the last half is all exposition, but it also goes off into an insane story and has way too much depth for a kid's medium.

The book equivalent is the Phenomenology of Spirit.
