Stevenson? Did Nabokov really think he was in the same class as the others?

Stevenson is fucking awesome, you stupid faggot. If that Kafka pedo is there with his overrated bug boy fantasy I don't see why Jekyll & Hyde wouldn't be there.

His reverence for 'pleb' genre writers like Stevenson, Poe and HG Wells is really endearing to me because it shows his actual tastes and that he's not just parroting what he's told to like. I really love that about him, same with him taking down the greats (if you can call idiots like Faulkner or Mann greats that is).

Stevenson wrote pirate novels, Poe wrote bad poetry and crime fiction and Wells wrote sci-fi

You shouldn't have put pleb in brackets.

- Stevenson wrote exactly one (1) pirate novel, not "novels". His prose is excellent. Admired by the likes of Borges.
- Poe is one of the masters of the short story. Profoundly influential writer.
- Wells was a great artist. Praised by Nabokov as "A writer for whom I have the deepest admiration."

These are not pleb writers.

Faulkner and Mann are great. Definitely more deserving of the title than fucking Tolstoy. I really don't get the dicksucking for the guy, he's even more boring than Eliot.
