Has anyone read vita nova by Dante?
I’m currently reading it and I must say so far Dante portrays his love for Beatrice in a quite endearing way. Also the combination of poems and prose is very interesting.

>write novels about a bitch you never even spoke to and doesnt even know you're obsessed with her
>meanwhile she's getting railed, like a massive sicillian cock is drilling into her pussy every night

Was he autistic?

My friend, you have to stop watching porn. Then maybe you can grasp that there is something deeply innocent and sacred about love. Dante describes this beautifully in the first few chapters about his youth, where he tries to conceal his love for Beatrice.
Get well soon.

Beatrice probably wasn’t real, or at the very least how she is portrayed is heavily embellished. It was a feature of the Sweet New Style to write about a woman as some divine that figure that elevates the poet’s own spirituality, so Dante invented one and went on to say that his poems about other women were actually totally about this “Beatrice” in the Vita Nova. You even see it in how he first encounters her at the age of 9 and then again at 18, two multiples of 3, representing the trinity. He continues to redefine what Beatrice even is until the Comedy where she’s supposed to represent theology and love itself (which is divine and good and not at all lustful). Basically she’s just a useful archetype for Dante to reuse throughout his work.

Isn't Beatrice supposed to represent the Church?

>the church and Virgil lead Dante to salvation

That’s like the most asinine surface level thing you could think up. I doubt it has any relation to the text.

In the Commedia she is divine revelation and revealed tradition, while Virgil is natural reason and the classical tradition.

That´s an interesting interpretation. I can totally see it. I will keep it in mind while reading, but i´m still a hopeless romantic so i like the literal interpretation.
