>One account says that a poet from Khorosan made the journey to Kandahar to present a poem in praise of Nader. He read his verses at court, but Nader did not like them. He liked them so little that he had a court usher take the poet round the camp, offering him for sale as a slave, but there were no takers. Nader then asked him, ‘How did you get here?’ The poet replied, ‘On a donkey,’ Nader then had the donkey offered for sale. Immediately a good price was offered, and the donkey was sold. Nader gave the money to the usher, and had the poet run out of the camp, to general derision. Nader was not a great lover of the arts.
