Has anyone read this? I'm about to start reading it. Id never heard of it and almost passed right over it in the thrift store, but by chance looked at it and it's apparently a really well regarded Western book that became a well regarded movie starring Henry Fonda, neither of which I'd ever heard of

It was written in 1940 and is supposed to be "realistic", and with the memetic popularity of Blood Meridian and Butcher's Crossing, it makes me wonder why I'd never heard of this. Have you heard of it?

Maybe it's just good and not that great. I'll find out when I start reading soon

Yes, I've heard of it but I haven't read it yet. It's included in LoA's westerns compilation together with Shane, Warlock and The Searchers.

This reminds me that I want to read Warlock, I heard of that a while back and filed it away in my mind and then completely forgot about it until now, thanks. I had to read Shane when I was a freshman in high school and didn't care for it too much but then again I was forced to read it so it could've been great for all I know
