Frankly I didn't like the ending and I thought the prose was awful.

Are McCarthy's other books better?

Monsters don't like when they are exposed. The book is an exposition about the United States's nature. America is a nation of Mass Murderers, build by a system to create mass murderers.
The book is a mirror and the image in that mirror is the ultimate truth. We're all about to kill each-other again in a new civil war. It's already happening on tv, and no one is giving a shit about it.

If you disliked BM’s ending and you thought the prose was awful, you almost certainly won’t like any Cormac McCarthy books.

Hard to say more than this since you don't say exactly what you dislike about BM.

BM is McCarthy's best book besides maybe Suttree. Those two are tied for first imo and represent his work at peak writing abilities, so if you didn't like BM you probably wont like the rest of his stuff.

Personally he is a top 3 author for me, but I understand why some can't get into him.

>I didn’t like the ending

The ending was so anticlimactic! And sooo sad. What happened to the kid??? I don’t know! Did he die? So sad. We can’t have such sadness in times like these. If I could rewrite it, it would have been sooo much more different. First off, the ending was too sad. Good guys always win, everyone knows that. So the kid should have rode into town to fight the judge in a big final showdown. All the townspeople should have joined the kid and he comes up to the judge riding on the dancing bear and KILLS him! Then afterwards the spirits of Toadvine and Sproule (bless his stinking leg) come down like Jedi ghosts and congratulate the kid for beating the bad guy. Then he rides on happily ever after to Tatooine. In this alternate ending I imagine Tobin to be an obi-wan kenobi figure in the kid’s life. Tobin wan kenobi

You are allowed to dislike the ending, but the prose is objectively good whether you like it or not.
For the rest, this is a juvenile novel for men in their early twenties, after 25 you should grow up and start enjoying things like Flaubert and Proust, which are superior in every regard. McCarthy's exaggerated metaphysical musings about life and death falls flat once you become an adult, and should raise the doubt whether he ever managed to become one in his own life or whether he fundamentally remained an angry, immature young man in his 80s - talking about an apocalypse that never came and in which he hoped only so that he could be confirmed in his idea that absolute evil exists somewhere. It's extremely ironic that someone who spent so much time writing about the end of days and the misery of being on earth died old and successful.
