Was simpery a major issue back in the 1920s? Why did Jay Gatz get such a oneitis for Daisy who clearly wanted gigachad Tom more than the betacuck that is Jay?

The tailoring in this particular adaptation is immaculate. Not surprising, given that the costuming was done by Ralph Lauren himself.

I wish the lawn care shit would die. Huge fucking waste of time and resources. Would rather had a productive vegetable garden than gay grass that does nothing.

I think it had more to do with a combination of childhood frustration and PTSD from WW1. It’s not just about getting Daisy and everything she represents, he explicitly states a desire to go back to the past even though he resents his childhood and adolescence. He appears to idolize specifically his pre-war experience as an officer in training.
