Thinking about getting the Orthodox Study Bible by Thomas Nelson. How good is it, already read new testament from a sola scriptura pov. Wanna read the old testament, so why not get to know orthodoxy better. Is it worth the time?

Behold!

I did a lot of studying on which is best and why without any specific denomination in mind besides accuracy and I came to this conclusion. Lots of footnotes and data included in book. Pretty sure its also more accurate scripter than KJV cause of the time that's past with new discoveries

My two cents:
All translations are flawed, and all of the original writings of the old testament are long gone. Religious texts are more like cumulative cultural products generated over centuries of translations, omissions, and so on. Getting the oldest one is not necessarily getting the "real" one, because even the oldest available primary sources are still not the original, and the real original probably wasn't as good because things were added and omitted and improved over time. You're better off, i think, getting the most culturally important versions of the Bible that have had the most work done on them, like the Latin Vulgate or the King James Version.

The Bible is historical and can be traced. Thats what makes Christanity pretty neat. I get what youre saying.
