Don't listen to this idiot. Your mind is for coming up with new ideas, not for storing them. Your memory has nothing to do with this. Put it somewhere it doesn't matter. Maybe you like writing it down, maybe you like creating vast collections in Org or Obsidian. Pick whatever works for you, it's about you and your palace. Don't betray the moment you're in now, the you now, for the slower boring old you later. Value the you right now.

Most people writing notes also don't "produce" anything. "Productivity" as in "having a system to keep oneself occupied" is largely a meme.

Taking notes is good though, makes you remember the contents of the books, and helps to extract ideas. I mostly highlight stuff, sometimes write short summaries.

You should write instead of highlight. You won't understand your younger self and his priorities necessarily. You need to leave breadcrumbs to recreate that latent space again. It's worthwhile. Treat yourself like a patient with Alzheimers.

An iPad with Apple Pencil almost perfectly replicates the experience (minus the tactile component) of using a pen and paper. But any cheap paper and a gel pen is all you need.

As for taking notes at all, do it. I’m a high-IQ and don’t need notes to recall important information, HOWEVER the act of note-taking puts your brain into a active role when you are transcribing information instead of just absorbing it passively which keeps you focused and improves cognition overall, so just do it although it’s not required.

if you are so high-iq, why arent you reading texts that require you to interpret things beyond a face value?

The brain is weird.
The brain is so weird it associates memories with external stimuli unrelated to the memories but that were present in the background while the memory was being created.

To that end, find a hard candy with a particular flavor. Suck on the hard candy while studying a piece of work you need to recall later for a test or something. When taking the test, pop a piece of the same candy in your mouth and you will remember what you studied substantially easier because your brain associates that flavor with the memory.
