Read Stoner. It's much better written, a better story, and without self-pity and cheap whores.

If that's how you wish to see it. Some things he achieved, some he enjoyed, the dearest were taken from him. He lived a life.

On that at least I can agree. I just expected more from that novel.

More personal achievements and adventures?
It was surprisingly gripping, I was reading for hours without a pause.

>More personal achievements and adventures?
No, I just felt like he knew what the root of his problems were and did nothing about it. He doesn't look like a coward and yet behaves like one. Instead of chasing whatever makes him happy he dies with laments about his life. What if this, what if that, but the time to act was then and not at the end.

He should have:
1. Divorced his wife or reignited their passion.
2. Talked more to his daughter, spent more time with her.
3. Quit that stupid university of his or get a good talk with Lomax about all that bullshit between them.

Will that solve all his problems? No, but it's a step to a better ending than the one we got.

Was Lomax butt buddies with the cripple boy?

3. Quitting uni was the least likely. As outlined by his friend at the begging of the book, it was a safe haven, he wouldn't know anything else.
2. He did good at first, until the wife started mind breaking him. Then it devolved into a kind of learned helplessness. He didn't want to fight it because Grace was the target of wife's attacks. But doing nothing is a limpdick move.
1. Wife had some daddy issues, would beatings have fixed her? Divorce does seem like the most sensible option, but he wouldn't have wanted to drag his young daughter through that, and after she had grown up it didn't matter anymore.

Exactly why I didn't like it. The main character is a coward who did nothing to fix his life.

Try the door by magda szabo, Emerence has more depth as a character compared to Yozo or even Stoner.

Read Confessions of a Mask. Plenty of books about depressive schizoids who don’t fit in. Some cope with sex and booze, some don’t. No Longer Human filters incels though because Yozo has sex. You guys really envious of an alcoholic man-whore whose entire identity is fake? Also he got his start by fucking prostitutes, something you all say you’re too good for.
