>In 1968, Darger became interested in tracing some of his frustrations back to his childhood and began writing The History of My Life. Spanning eight volumes, the book begins with 206 pages of autobiography, circling through various events in Darger's life seemingly at random, and ending with the sentence "There is one really important thing I must write which I have forgotten." The remaining 4,672 pages describe the damage caused by a powerful fictional tornado called "Sweetie Pie"

Does this fall under pomo?

Dunno but I wish someone bothered to publish or at least digitize his writings. I've heard they're largely unreadable but I'd like to find that out for myself

This would be the highlight of any library collection and it would be more interesting than Proust.

I bet they just can't figure out who owns the copyright to it. That's probably the real impediment to it getting published.

What would calling a work "Dargerian" signify?

Writing about a tornado is masturbatory?

There is no longer such a thing as "underground art" in the age of mass communication

This guy is like a lesser version of Chris Chan in that he documented his life in his story except unlike Chris his story isn’t funny enough on its own because of his lack of theory of mind and perspective/ oversharing information so basically it’s just some Tl;Dr story no one read which is only known for having been written by a weird guy. People at least read Sonichu.

I'm sure the actual text is mostly schizophrenia but Darger is a fascinating guy because he reminds me eerily of my projected future self if I can't get my shit together and I'd love to get a look into his mind.
Treating his life's project like a curio to be displayed at "outsider art exhibits" (freak shows) seems much more disrespectful than simply publishing it (even as a library of scans) and letting whatever artistic value it has speak for itself.
