Books about night and night walking?
>>24554503 (OP)Night walking was such a forced doomer. People get drunk and occasionally jog at night. Anybody going for night walks is a larper trying to appear deep.
>>24554503 (OP)Have you been making these threads for years? It seems unlikely there are multiple anons with this same niche request going for years now. Remember a few write threads even and probably one of the last write threads I participated in was on this topic, wonder if I can find it.
>>24554585I just like the quite and it generally smells better during the night.
>>24554585When I was at school in NYC I used to walk at 4am all the time. It was me, the homeless, and women with giant dogs. Pretty comfy.
Nightwalking in 1st world = agoraphobic, sensitive, sign of weakness
Nightwalking in 3rd world = testament of courage, beastmode, sign of heroism, katabasis, etc
>>24554585I walk at night because its 2 hot during the day
>>24554655Nope, this is my first time. Seems there is demand but a lack of content. I used to love night walking in Tokyo because of the mix of skyscrapers and spooky old shrines and wondered if there were any books on that.
>>24554503 (OP)How about day walking? I am rereading Rings of Saturn.
>>24554585you're retarded. walking at night or early morning is great, air is brisk and streets are quiet. that is if you are living somewhere that's not a shit hole with drunks laying around and people carrying knives will mug you.
>>24554663>Nightwalking in 1st worldenjoyable experience
>Nightwalking in 3rd world unnecessary risk taking, sign of low IQ
>>24554723That sounds like a really neat experience anon, now I'm jealous of you. I should go over to Tokyo before Japan gets ruined like everywhere else is.
I already walk in the afternoon but I started doing short walks right before bed to help me sleep lately.
>>24554917It’s great and safe even for women. Japanese people cross the street to get away from you for being a gaijin. Tons of conbinis open 24/7 and vending machines everywhere if you want a snack. Lots of lights in the central areas and then village like parts on the edges.
Tried doing the same in Korea, but all the hills in Seoul make it impossible to walk for long. Plus you can’t piss in any of the public toilets or your ass will end up on some pervert’s hard drive.
>>24554503 (OP)Murakami - After Dark is literally just a dude walking around Tokyo at night and meeting people at Denny's at 2 am and shit.
>>24554503 (OP)>Books about night and night walking?Read something actually good, namely non fiction and not philosophy slop, you pseud.
I wish I had time to waste like you do.
>>24554585Believe it or not, some people actually enjoy doing things instead of constantly fixating on their image like you.
>>24554503 (OP)Not a whole book, but there’s a night walking chapter in Dylan Thomas’s (sort of) autobiography, "Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Dog".
He talks about how he likes to wander around at night and stand in lonely corners and smoke cigarettes and feel cool and and philosophical.
Then IIRC he meets two other guys under some bridge by accident and it turns out they all just like wandering around being cool lol.
>>24554503 (OP)I like nightwalking followed by nightwanking.
>I have been one acquainted with the night.
>I have walked out in rain—and back in rain.
>I have outwalked the furthest city light.
>I have looked down the saddest city lane.
>I have passed by the watchman on his beat
>And dropped my eyes, unwilling to explain.
>I have stood still and stopped the sound of feet
>When far away an interrupted cry
>Came over houses from another street,
>But not to call me back or say good-bye;
>And further still at an unearthly height,
>One luminary clock against the sky
>Proclaimed the time was neither wrong nor right.
>I have been one acquainted with the night.
The Pedestrian by Ray Bradbury
>>24554723>skyscrapersThere's literally like 4 and only in Shinjuku. Earthquake regulations and such. Why lie?
>>24554503 (OP)this thread inspired me to go for a night walk. well it was night around the halfway mark when i made it to the local cemetery
thank you for posting
>>24555032seconding this. short enough to read in a single night as well, adds to the experience
>>24554585I can’t sleep and night is quiet as death around here. It’s comfy walking deserted streets.
I have to night walk otherwise I don’t sleep well. It’s very nice to see the moon
>>24554503 (OP)Catcher in the Rye is my first thought for both of these even though the majority of the book involves neither. Good Morning, Midnight by Jean Rhys works though
>>24556611https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_structures_in_Tokyo
>>24554655Lots of people like night walking
Ulysses: Circe, Nestor, Ithaca
In book X of the Iliad, Odysseus and Diomedes have a pleasant walk in the nighttime. They definitely don't do anything like murder people or steal horses because that would be illegal.
>>24554585>arbitrary rules for arbitrary reasonsget a fucking life my brotha
>>24554585I live innawoods, night walking is not an option.
>>24559846Too many creepy crawlies and rabid doggos.
>>24559474Rhesus by Euripides recounts this same story but from the Trojan's perspective.
Euripides was a guy to recontextualize a lot and to depict events at Troy from the Trojan's viewpoint to show the rampant militarism and nihilistic ideas of his own Athenian society. Rhesus and the Trojan woman (much more well regarded as a masterpiece) show the Greeks as barbarians and Trojans as victims in complete contrast to Homer's shining praise of the long haired Acheans.
Do you guys live in the middle of cities or something? If I night walk I’m just walking across highways and through cornfields in the dark within 10 minutes.
>>24560013Spooky. Sounds like a nice walk
>>24554503 (OP)Kara no Kyoukai told me that night walks are not about being alone, but feeling alone. They are different sensations.
whenever i go for a night walk i think about how i want to smoke some weed but i never do ok maybe once
In Praise of Shadows by Junichiro Tanizaki
i just got back from a night walk but i feel fat so now i'm going to go for a night run since the heat finally mellowed its almost down to 80
>>24554503 (OP)>Books about night and night walking?"That time Johnny took a night walk and was murdered by MS-13"
>>24560199rightwingers will tell you they're ready for civil war or some shit but are also scared to go for a walk at night, really makes u think
What do gangsters even do outside at 3 AM?
>>24560214Pretty damn good if you like japanese urban fantasy from the 90s, but make sure to watch the ufotable movies instead of reading the books. The English translations are all horrible.
>>24560221>ufotable movieswhy not the anime instead?
>>24560224The ufotable movies are the anime...KnK got adapted as a 7 plus 2 part movie series.
>>24554585I walk at night because it's the only time the world is actually bearable - the day is total calamity, full of the imbecile noise of people doing shit just for the sake of doing it, speeding around in their pointless fucking lives of working and eating and consuming and making everywhere hell on earth for the few who desire peace, or to actually stop and take in the world rather than just slide over it like bird shit on a windscreen. Night time is the only reprieve from it all.
>>24560646I get it, anon. I do the same
>>24560212I actually don't really ever see gang people out that late. They'll hang around all day but clear out at night. Lots of harmless-type dealers and junkies out though

>>24554503 (OP)I used to sneak out at night as a teenager and walk around my neighborhood while listening to Leftover Crack and occasionally lighting off fireworks. One time a friendly negro sitting on his porch saw me and asked if it was The Purge already, to which I gave a nod and kept on walking.
OP here, thanks for all the suggestions. I’ve already read In Praise of Shadows, Murakami’s After Dark, Catcher in the Rye, The Illiad, and Confessions of an English Opium Eater and they all definitely fit the vibe. Looking forward to reading the rest, especially Rhesus by Euripides as I’m working my way through the Greek dramas right now. I can’t imagine what night walking in ancient times must have been like, with mythological beasts lurking around every dark corner. If your torch goes out you’re fucked.
