you are aware that the full story is about a dozen pages right? maybe you could try reading it, and see why Benny thinks AM did it.

Ellison’s anthology series Dangerous Visions is this from different authors. Take a good idea and then make it as twisted and degenerate as you can imagine. Maybe it was novel back in the day, but it comes off as 2edgy4me now.

he was an intellectual, sensitive, gay man, and he turned him into a ravenous, stupid, horny, sex-crazed ape. it's a really short story how did you get confused by it?

I’m unsure what you mean? I got about halfway through Dangerous Visions and gave up.
Evensong was interesting and The Day After the Martians Came was an actually well executed story (that I’d read in a Pohl collection). I know there were stories from other great authors further on, but I couldn’t wade through the stories that felt edgy for the sake of edgy. Ellison reminds me of Garth Ennis, good ideas filled with over-the-top cruel characters.

AM's hatred for his captives and humanity as a whole is partly a displacement of an acute envy in his incapacity to be a living being. Because he is unable to experience physical pleasure (or any sort of emotional interconnection that is not part of a vicious cycle of implacable hatred), he subverts the sexuality of the humans in order to mutilate and make a mockery of what he cannot have. Humanity produced AM as a distorted image of its own flawed nature, so he is merely returning the favor. The fact Benny supposedly used to be a handsome, salient scientist who at one point might have been meant to be directly involved in creating AM further emphasizes this inversion.
