Every city has a small but rich circle of drugtaking humanity students. They obviously don't last long, and a certain amount of brain damage is a mandatory consequence, but this is your best bet.

Their trajectory begins with mushrooms and LSD and ketamine and MDMA. Then typically becomes more and more cocaine and alcohol before self destructing and burning up.

You think Joyce and Proust went around questioning how to ”live the literary life”? Literature is the product of life. If you only care to larp as a writer/reader, what’s the point? You’re clearly no better than those you seek to critique as you yourself wish to live a lie.

Accurate but it is worth pointing out that these circles, while engaging, are mostly made up of frauds. If you're partying and talking with your other 'smart friends' all the time you're only reading a few hours a week so it all becomes pretty stale. OP if you want people who actually love and are devoted to humanities your only option is grad school or somehow becoming friends with grad students. People like that are virtually non-existent outside of higher ed. At best you might occasionally meet an opinionated loser like the sort who post here, but these people are all frauds too.

>Then typically becomes more and more cocaine and alcohol before self destructing and burning up.

i don't know about Joyce, but Proust literally paid people to give him good reviews in newspapers, so i guess he was embedded in some sort of literary scene

Ironic coming from someone who thinks the world us actually full of YASS girls taking pictures of croissants because he doesn’t leave his house, scrolls social media and thinks michaels daughter from GTA V is representative of real life people.

Read fucking books. That's it. The "literary life" is a meme propagated by fags who care more about being seen with a book than reading or writing.

Between the “girls taking pictures of food”, using the word “vlog” and acting like anyone is still serving anything in jars I kinda just assume you’re stuck in 2016. Either a bot or a perpetual shut-in.

all the good writers were part of a literary milieu, even the allegedly reclusive ones like Salinger started in the New York literary scene and only became a recluse after he had enough money to do it

I'm unemployed, sponge of my friends for drinks, get into heated debates at the pub, am a pervert, and find some time in the day to read and write. I would consider that a pretty literary way to live.

Worked at a coffee shop for a few months and it made me insane how many people ask for iced coffee, extra sugar extra cream.

In the end it was like 10 percent coffee.

This is such a gay way to think of the world.. Living in accordance with some ideal instead of just doing what you enjoy, it’s what tryhard fakes do who are insecure. People who like to write dont need to make themselves either they just do.

The ironic thing is you aren’t writing THIS from experience, since you’re a nobody with no concept of being “read” by others. This is one of the biggest myths and you’re just parroting what you’ve heard others say.
