Still wouldnt gain empathy or entertainment without reading. Another reason to read is to grow and challenge your assumptions and beliefs. I guess you could gain that and empathy with directly injecting book material.

But could you inject the right knowledge to gain the wisdom to properly evaluate and work around preconcieved notions?

For fiction the enjoyment is from the gradual unveiling of the story, so directly injecting it wouldn’t do anything for you
