What an utterly forgettable piece of tripe.
Easily one of Trier's worst. Watch Breaking the Waves, Melancholia, Hell even Nymphomania. At least it's more entertaining than this snoozefest.

I prefer this one. I know it's a triumph of style over substance, to the point that the visual style damaged the direction, but it's honest in its own way, and when it works, mesmerizing. Breaking the Waves, on the other hand, is a melodrama that feigns truth through a very clever, hidden style, something von Trier would do for a good few films, which I found disingenuous.

But I like The Kingdom.
