>>24575985>Is it based on authentic information or is it created by your guesses?I grew up pretty middle class but I feel like I know the poor pretty well. I worked in factories, was a deck hand for a few summers, served beer at a flea market concession stand, worked in an ER that served rural poor and homeless.
Some might feel like I'm punching down a little bit. Spending time with poor people in the US, you realize that much of their suffering is their own fault, but also that this doesn't necessarily make them any less of victims if that's all their capacity was.
I wrap it up with humor. Kat, the female protagonist, is being replaced at her customer service Wal-Mart job by a shitty automated robot. She gets into a tiff with a social justice warrior type, and the event goes viral, mocking the uncultured white trash at Walmart. She goes home to her trailer park days later, and there is a protest outside the trailer park. Things like that. It mocks everyone in the milieu.
It's supposed to be absurd but human. Someone once in another thread about the book metioned it reminded him of The Big Lebowski and Raising Arizona and I was so glad to hear that because those were major influences on me.
