they are either more wrinkled or less than you would expect for a woman of her age. I imagine yiu could decipher which from context if yiu weren't stupid.

Are your hands your age, anon? If not it's perfectly possible that hers aren't either.

Orin incorrectly assesses one of his subjects to be a 'Swiss' hand model, but we know that it's Luria. Now there's a lot going on with Orin, obviously, so this could be some Oedipal thing where he's seeing an attribute of his mother on Luria, and that could be one way of reading this. Luria being a mere lookalike however just doesn't make 100% sense to me. It could be that they're twins. Or you could ask yourself where Avril was on YDAU Nov 11 and who she's on the phone with. Is she one of the three spies? It's pretty clear Thierry is one of the three spies. The other likely candidates are Avril and John Wayne, with a Saskatoon kid who draws rifles in a single mention in the novel being another potential spy, which could free up either Avril or John. Additionally, when it comes to spies, we need to constantly wonder if the amount of their allegiances is even- or odd-numbered. There is a lot to think about when DFW says her hands are younger than they appear.

Plastic surgery will preserve youthful face but the hands may show real age
Honestly I find DFW and his writing repulsive and stuff like this, which is written pretty well actually, is a big reason why
Avril is clearly based on his mother who he was estranged from. DFW was not a good person

Who cares whether he was a good person? The writing is either good or it's bad.

Worthwhile writing is the purest expression of personality which is either good or bad. It's only possible for a great person to appreciate a great work. The true poet creates only from his own reality (Nietzsche). So Wallace's writing is juvenile and superficial. He was badly motivated. He really wanted to appear as smart, and true intellect is oblivious to that kind of thing. I appreciate that he admitted this though (you can really see how lost he was in "This Is Water" address)
