So, this is not meant to be a brag post at all nor a women hating post. I finally got a long time gf and when we were meeting each other she claimed to be a reader, and she was! But almost everything she read was wattpad or erotica. It reminded me of my own mother and grandma, growing up we had an entire room filled with books, but they never read mythology, they never read the greeks, they never read philosophy, it was all stories about female protagonists being cool girls and having lots of lovers. Never anything of substance.

Women don't acually read. They only want handsome men who sorta, somewhat know HOW to read so they can share their novels with us. Nothing more.

I don't think that's a good generalization. At least three women I known were actually readers: one loved the surreal writings of Boris Vian and told me she read The Golden Ass by Apuleius among others, one's the wife of a dear friend of mine and I saw their bookshelves, passionate about art, spanish lit and to my surprise, Andrei Makine of what I can remember (husband reads biographies) . Lastly, an old work colleague, that likes Marquez and Hesse (husband doesn't read). Hell even my ex loved No longer human apart from the rest of misery holocaust porn that she usually read.

So, I don't know what to say, the only counter example would be another friend's ex who read only YA and brag about how much she reads per day.

Where did the novel go? Reading novels used to be like what watching the Sopranos or Breaking Bad is today: easy for men, because it spoke to contemporary concerns and packaged it in a digestibly pulpy format. But today, "reading a novel" either means reading a period piece touching on some bygone generation of men's concerns, which is rewarding but requires at least some intellectual effort and is thus "work," or it means reading about slant-eyed faggots in wheelchairs or some shit.

Make novels fun and interesting again and men will read them.
