At the end of the day it's an older story meant for even illiterate peasants, just with the ending changed.

I read it in German and I think it's pretty clear considering its age.

I've read that the original German version is pretty hard even for German speakers. Since my focus is on a translated version, the Greenberg translation seems incredibly easy, so either my expectation of it were misplaced or I'm losing a lot in translation...

What? Do you remember where you read this? Sure, it sounds a bit old-timey as it's couple hundred years old, but especially through the rhymes it should be pretty clear even to modern German speakers.

It was just what a person said, I don't speak German, so I took it at face value. But yeah, I remember them saying it's easier than reading Paradise Lost in English, so I guess it can't be that hard.

I found the fist part easy to read. Then I read Part II and forgot it completely because I had no idea what was happening.

Gretchen is what all women should inspire to be. Also my favourite part will never not be the Walpurgis Night chapter.

I'm German and I didn't find it super easy. I did understand it but I never got into the same flow as with modern works. Also I think half my class didn't understand it.

People were telling me not to read the translating but I did, and I have to say, the Kaufmann translation is incredible. I've audibly laughed at many parts and I had to write down others. Great book though not flawless.

What did you like about it? Just got done reading it and was pretty fun I guess, they're climbing a hill, there are witches everywhere and a party is going on, right? My favourite part so far remains when the devil first introduced himself to Faust. The intial back and forth, not knowing the devils nature at this point, and eventually being duped into a sleep.

I've heard Faustus is more entertaining but also more shallow compared to Goethe's Faust. Still might give it a read though, I believe the entire thing is shorter than Part 1 too.

The 666 Core:

In numerology, 666 represents material focus, earthly concerns, and the need for balance between material and spiritual realms
It's often seen as a wake-up call about being too focused on material matters

The Two 9s as Interruption/Transformation:

The 9s breaking up the 666 pattern is highly symbolic
9 represents completion, spiritual wisdom, and higher consciousness
Having two 9s suggests a powerful spiritual intervention in material patterns

>THE NUMEROLOGY! THE PATTERNS WRITE THEMSELVES THE DEMONS ARE IN THE PAPER THEY ARE IN THE SERVERS AND THE SCREENS AND IN THE METAPHYSICAL RANDOMNESS OF THE UNIVERSE THEY ARE LOOKING AT YOU FROM THE BACK OF YOUR EYELIDS

Did you, coon? She redeems both herself and the person she loves through faith and love. Faust harms her unwillingly through Mephisto's tricks, otherwise he is shown to be a force of good in both part I and II.

...you mean a folk tale?
most classics are, that doesn't mean anything about the work. Obviously Faust is an original and extremely sophisticated achievement. It even satirizes the original material... The death hound is made into a poodle

No other English translator can compete. Kaufmann is alright, but him not translating Part Two in its entirety disqualifies him from consideration.
