>At first the audience did not do much and was extremely passive. However, as the realization began to set in that there was no limit to their actions, the piece became brutal. By the end of the performance, her body was stripped, attacked, and devalued into an image that Abramović described as the "Madonna, mother, and whore." As Abramović described it later: "What I learned was that ... if you leave it up to the audience, they can kill you. ... I felt really violated: they cut up my clothes, stuck rose thorns in my stomach, one person aimed the gun at my head, and another took it away. It created an aggressive atmosphere. After exactly 6 hours, as planned, I stood up and started walking toward the audience. Everyone ran away, to escape an actual confrontation."
What is the limit of art? What does performance art do that literature cannot?

and retards in this board think humans have souls when we are just dumb monkeys with a little imagination who only behave when we think someone in the sky is watching, i read that performance and was convinced that humans just pretend all throughout their lives, we are always one crisis away from becoming unhinged

Even if you think about pacing, or silence and sound design, before you get to accident or disruption, there's a reason most plays are not closet dramas and opera has fans

Not doing much for the theory that women exist to be impregnated and made to either care for kids, or just killed after they cant breed anymore.

nta but if we were just dumb monkeys we'd be less evil. its impressive how creative and depraved people can be with how evil they are. I think that fits into "having a soul" but not the rose-tinted glasses perspective of religious people

>“By the way, a Bulgarian I met lately in Moscow,” Ivan went on, seeming not to hear his brother’s words, “told me about the crimes committed by Turks and Circassians in all parts of Bulgaria through fear of a general rising of the Slavs. They burn villages, murder, outrage women and children, they nail their prisoners by the ears to the fences, leave them so till morning, and in the morning they hang them—all sorts of things you can’t imagine. People talk sometimes of bestial cruelty, but that’s a great injustice and insult to the beasts; a beast can never be so cruel as a man, so artistically cruel. The tiger only tears and gnaws, that’s all he can do. He would never think of nailing people by the ears, even if he were able to do it. These Turks took a pleasure in torturing children, too; cutting the unborn child from the mother’s womb, and tossing babies up in the air and catching them on the points of their bayonets before their mothers’ eyes. Doing it before the mothers’ eyes was what gave zest to the amusement. Here is another scene that I thought very interesting. Imagine a trembling mother with her baby in her arms, a circle of invading Turks around her. They’ve planned a diversion: they pet the baby, laugh to make it laugh. They succeed, the baby laughs. At that moment a Turk points a pistol four inches from the baby’s face. The baby laughs with glee, holds out its little hands to the pistol, and he pulls the trigger in the baby’s face and blows out its brains. Artistic, wasn’t it? By the way, Turks are particularly fond of sweet things, they say.”
>“Brother, what are you driving at?” asked Alyosha.
>“I think if the devil doesn’t exist, but man has created him, he has created him in his own image and likeness.”

I don't care who was in that stage or how retarded said "artist" is, snivelling malice should always be stopped and answered with violence, when necessary. I can't think of anything more despicable than only having the "courage" to act against someone when they won't react and you won't face any consequences. It's not even about the person in the stage, it's about reminding any cunt trying to act against them that the rot they carry around in their souls has no place being expressed towards others. To do any less is to fail as a person.
Bystander effect motherfuckers have they share of guilt too.

I don't care. What kind of cunt only enters a fight if he knows that he will win? A coward, that's who. I'm also not naive or a martyr. The first thing I would do would be grabbing the revolver. Strength and consequence are the only kind of language someone like that understands.

I love Marina because she's the one who really drove home for me how doing, experiencing, feeling things that might seem unpleasant, terrifying, disgusting, painful, etc. instead of the things that are safe, comfortable, familiar, painless, is such a vitally important and necessary part of life and the human condition. She really embodies this in her art.
I also really love her works with Ulay that explore love and the duality of the feminine/masculine in a uniquely physical, material way.
