>>24567989 (OP)I don’t know if I’d call it deep, but it’s a fun story. It’s got breezy pacing for such a long book, and does a good job of showing all the characters at different points in their lives. But the best part is Howard, and how the other characters bounce off of him and react to his existence. Most of the cast feel like relatively realistic people, albeit a bit too clear in what they represent. But Howard is like an alien. He’s this total, ironclad gigachad that embodies egotism to the core. I don’t know if it’s intentional or not, but I found him to be a brilliantly funny character. His conversations with Keating’s mom and the dean immediately hooked me when I started reading. He’s so hilariously sure of himself that it bewilders the people around him.
