Almost every person who reads for Librivox has a lisp or some irritating speech impediment

Obviously an audio book spoken by a professional actor will be better than some nerd who recorded himself.

>is livrivox any good?
Generally speaking no.
They are usually quite bad. To the point that sometimes TTS is preferably.
It seems like ESL students use LibriVox as a way of practicing English or a way for stroke victims and people with speech impairments to relearn their reading out-loud skills.

There is less quality control or really any sort of regard for quality then AI slop, which is saying something.

Yes, commercially produced audiobooks are MUCH better.

Many are very bad, and also change reader (and volume) dramatically over relatively short periods.

You're better off looking on YouTube and Spotify for other free readings. There is a lot of good stuff if you're into Patristic texts or medieval thought. Two Orthodox channels, Athonite Audio and Phronema of our Fathers also put out a ton of material, including recent stuff that is quite expensive in print and not on Anna's. But the quality isn't great. Whereas some of the YouTube stuff, like The Ladder of Divine Ascent and For the Life of the World is professional quality.

I remember one female who read the jane austen books and went on to become a professional audiobook narrator. I liked her

Probably not, it's like a copyright notice for but for open source. It's not that distracting and rather provides a break after the chapter for me.
