He saw the true nature of Indians. I’ve always thought that someone who graduated from Harrow and Trinity College like Nehru has as little in common with his countrymen as man has to an insect. Yet back then he had at least something to aspire to, to try and at least make an effort out of turning a rabble into a nation. By Naipaul’s time there was no such illusions anymore
