Alphabetically by author? By genre? By read and unread?

Need some advice. These arenโ€™t all my books but this is a small shelf (I need a bigger one)

Haven't bought my shelf yet, but I already planned it out. Assume every shelf is sorted by author alphabetically.
>Top Shelf
Philosophy and Greco-Roman classics
>Next Shelf
Politics, Economics
>3rd
History
>4th
Math, Science
>5th
Sci-Fi, fiction

Separated into fiction/nonfiction. Fiction is alphabetical, nonfiction is alphabetical except for history books which are chronological

I stand 30 feet from the bookshelf and throw the book at it. Wherever it lands is where it stays.

Fiction is alphabetical, then chronological within author. Non-fiction is grouped by topic in arbitrary order (I don't have enough where the ordering matters).

At the highest level, they're organized categorically.

Within sub-levels, several categories share the same organizational structure:

>Novels & Poetry
Alphabetically by author's surname, then chronologically for multiple works of the same author. Plays are included in the Novels category.

>Philosophy, History, & Mythology
Chronologically, philosophy being divided by eastern and western. Works with chronological overlap are generally organized by theme, school of thought, and/or geographic region.

>Biography
Alphabetically by the subject's surname

It isn't organised. But I remember the vague location of every single book I own, so it's easy to find anything.

Antiquarian books are in a separate room, divided roughly into childrens, poetry, adventure, literature, humor, and other.

For the main library, literature (fiction) alpha by author; literature (poetry) alpha by author; theater alpha by author; history chronological; biography alpha by subject; philosophy alpha by author; politics alpha by author; tech writing alpha by author; other non-fiction alpha by author.

>gee, what color was my copy of pride and prejudice, again? Hmm... was it pink? Or purple?

By genre, I don't have enough books to need to order them alphabetically.
Top shelf is art and philosophy, second shelf is theology, church history etc., third shelf is fiction, fourth shelf is Bibles, prayer books, and mythology and folklore.
Within those it's organised by region and era.

By size.

Is that retarded? I did it cause I figured was best way to use every inch of shelf space.

i just loosely group things according to fiction/nonfiction and the time period it was written in. i thought it'd be a fun idea to organize my shelf completely by publish date but i gave up very quickly

>shelf
I have a stack of books to read and a stack of books Iโ€™ve read. The latter of which is ready to topple at any second derailing a good 20-30 minutes of my time.

By however I feel like. There is no rhyme or reason to the ordering of my books, I know where everything is anyway. Nobody else will see my bookshelf, it's for my eyes only, so I don't care for order as long as I still know where everything is (which I do).
It's kind of like a cluttered desk; things are messy, there are papers here and there, but you still know where/what everything is because it's yours. It's convenient for me, and I don't really care for appearances.

I keep all my books in plastic totes, and when those totes get full and I'm too lazy/cheap to buy more totes I start stacking them on my desk and nightstand
