Post your top ten favorite stories, talk about them, and then for a bit of dumb fun throw in your myers brigs type. It's hard to pick of course, for my list i made an effort to showcase many different lessons/ideas that are dear to me and have changed me, in no particular order for me. INTP schizoid here ; ).

I find that words fail to do ideas justice at times, but painting a picture with a story gives information that snippets of ideas by themselves couldn't make. Motifs and symbols are powerful, but the mega-structure they create combined in a certain way paints its own picture, an entire story is a symbol of something to me. Mock me and i will defend my choices ruthlessly, besides maybe TSZ, tells beautiful ideas in a cool framework, but i think many "philosophy" works can fit into that spot for me. Its simply important to me that people have the mindset for exploration and understanding, and nietzsche just feels more relatable than others.

What's your favorite story if you had to pick?

How can you make your own MBTI diagnosis? I never went to a psychologist, and assume everyone posting their own IQ scores and MBTI also never went, how do you feel accurate in your self assessment and not doubtful? Do the MBTI people have mental illness that causes them to exaggerate themselves into a caricature of their types and dissolve their real personalities?

I just took the online questionnaire. I don't know how accurate it is, or if the categorization is important to know. As for whether "MBTI people" are mentally ill, i can't say, but I certainly am by most peoples understanding.

Thank you for answering, if you take more than the one questionnaire in the future. I was wondering about people who know the MBTI and personality theory well enough to start having doubts about self assessment, or answers from people who buy the 16personalities plushies and tailor their diets and lifestyles to match.

I have taken it many times and have changed from INTJ heavy to INTP heavier on the P. I have certainly changed as a person in the last few years. The site explains the gist of what each "type" is supposed to represent, I personally just take it as another qualitative data point. Like ones blood pressure, could mean a lot of things maybe but one might be interested to know.

Love both of those, the Odyssey especially. Kind of wanted to put that on the list, but in the end, its words dont reach my personal experience as deeply as other stories. Beautiful as a whole though.

The count of monte christo is a beautiful book. I spent some time in jail, and it was a great solace, but i did not have the same type of dedication that he did. Not as long. I didnt put it in my list because it hurts me that i dont think the world will always actually reward such hard work or will. but i dont have it, so i guess i will never really know.

The remains of the Day really seems like an interesting idea but the first time i heard of it there was a lot of talk about how the story is extra deep because "how do you deal with le nazi they are so bad" and it turned me off. how does the book approach the politics?
The john milton prose is really beautiful but i find christian perspectives on Christianity to be difficult, though i think the christian symbology and ideas about god are interesting.

>how do you deal with le nazi they are so bad
The book is more about a wageslave rationalizing two things:
1) he wasted his life obsessing over work
2) his old masterf that he considered the smartest guy ever was actually kind of a dumbass that participated in appeasement.
The crimes of the nazis aren't the focus.

Guys I am an INTP, consistently ranked as one across 5 years, but then I took the mistype test and turns out even the test can't decide if I am INTP or ENTP. From the descriptions it feels INTP is the most accurate but in the mistype test my Ne was super dominant like 75-80% and from personal experience I believe that is correct. Am I divergent INTP?

INTJ from /co/ and /v/ itt. I prefer mostly normal fantasy and "space fantasy" like Zelazny (Amber first and foremost), Moorcock, Hamilton (Star Kings mostly), some satire fantasy like Pratchett and Rankin, to a slightly lesser extent Dune, Paul Anderson.
I also understand, but heavily dislike what i perceive as misery porn, such as Sirens of Titan by, iirc, Vonnegut, Bradbury and other Oruells - i just "feel" events i read about too much, it actually sends me into a very bad emotional state.
Someone like Azimov is a kind of a middle ground - interesting, with interesting concepts, but not exactly too enjoyable emotionally to experience, only as a system to build in your head.
I also like simple children books, they are full of simple yet good, kind things to be in.

I vary between ENTJ and ENTP, so at least I'm almost consistent throughout the years. As for favorite books:

1. The Blind Owl, Sadegh Hedayat
2. Woman in the Dunes, Kobo Abe (I've read Face of Another, which is also great, but I still have fond memories for Woman in the Dunes so it stays here)
3. Satantango, Laszlo Krasznahorkai
4. Journey to the End of the Night, L-F Celine
5. Tonka, Robert Musil (I've read most of his writings, I love the man but even though Tonka is just a short story/novella it's the closest to my heart)
6. Life of a Stupid Man, Ryu Akutagawa
7. Venus in Furs, Leo von Sacher-Masoch
8. The Slynx, Tatiana Tolstaya
9. The Prince, Housang Golshiri
10. A sorrow beyond dreams, Peter Handke

Special mention to The God of Small Things by Arundathi Roy.

I'm almost certain that I have an eclectic list of favorites but among everything I've read up until now, these have stayed the most with me.

Which you CAN find interesting discussion on any topic on /b/, just not many people try. As fool

I thought about putting an azimov story in, but its very niche in its ideas that make it harder to resonate with in life as a whole for me. I think stories meant to be "enjoyed" in a "fun" or "humorous" or "fantastic" sense are amazing but don't capture the full range of human experience well often, and while you may feel bad from misery porn, I often feel bad when reading very happy stories if they don't seem self aware in some way, such as lewis carol stuff. I think immersing in misery from stories for me, a very miserable person, is the constant search for some sort of answer or mental cope, though there may be none.

do you need a really stable environment and do you throw a tantrum when people disrupt it? that's tertiary si/INTP
under stress that 3rd slot thing comes up so intps like isolate and just try to have a really stable environment and just sort of do the ti-si loop thinking about their past and situation and trying to make things stable and comfy, and they need ne to break it ie considering different perspectives or just going out and being exposed to more things.
entps will get really concerned about what other people think about them or maybe troll and just sort of get caught up hopping from one thing to the other and just being kind of unstable and their way out of it is the ti focus/thinking clearly.
the 3rd slot is the resting place and what makes you act like a kid if it's disrupted

to note for the XNTP/XNTJ anons: Jung would have divided these two types by the extroverted or introverted thinking vs intuiting type.
ENTP/ENFP = extroverted intuitive type
INTJ/INFJ = introverted intuitive type
INTP/ISTP = introverted thinking type
ESTJ/ENTJ = extroverted thinking type

saying you are between two makes literally no sense as they have totally different primary way of engaging with reality. Being in between those two types or say unsure on attitude with entp vs intp makes sense though since that's just a difference in priority not a difference in function attitude.

istps are just like unconscious trolls where they intentionally are hostile and mean but don't have the awareness of why because they are operating with the se/ni rather than ne/si.
istps can't help but try to make everyone hate them for reason I think it's fun when it's just social but when it gets to like actually doing gore stuff it's kind of gross (another ISTP i used to know used to be really into gore and stuff with blood they stopped when they got their life together a little more but it does seem like they sort of manifest their internal issues by being socially disruptive and forcing everyone to deal with the really intense sensual stuff)

That's because they grasp MBTI well enough to mark the anti f**ctions of the percieved FAKE f**ction s**ck as an important part of them. If your f**ction s**ck makes coherent sense to you and then you didn't see it as a wakeup call to manipulate the s**ck, if you can't even invert your introversion/extroversion on your own supposedly primary f**ction, somebody or something is manipulating YOU, paralyzing you like a ragdoll. I actually am very chill for the most part and usually just stay to myself, which could be explained due to me being 8w9 and 5w4, but I'm still a core 8 type and really enjoy intensity, be it via extreme music, sex or the enjoyment of very dark and grotesque literature. The Se part I can see due to my enjoyment of dominance and sadism on a physical level, my liking of travel and trying new experiences constantly and my dislike of fantasy material and hypotheticals, which I think comes from Ne Polr.

Hard to say in just a few lines, but I'll take for example Venus in Furs (minor warning, there will be spoilers) - one of the main points for the book, besides the masochistic relationship between Wanda and Severin, is the fact the relationships are disproportionate by their very nature. There is always someone dominant and one dominated, which makes sense because there is always more involvement from one side than the other no matter the feelings that are in the middle. It more or less starts with this premise just before Severin starts to narrate his story. More than that, the whole book explores the contradictory feelings that Severin has - on one side, it's weird, he initiates and dictates the way Wanda should treat him, she as the mistress, him as the punishable slave with her reluctantly obliging his whims at first. So, despite him wanting to be her lesser it is him who leads and who holds power. But as the relationship evolves and even though he still dictates some aspects about it, the book ends with a voluntary secession of her power in favor of another and the subsequent last beating of Severin by her successor which in turn is the biggest humiliation he could have suffered.

I think it has to do with the fact that there would be inconsistencies in answering the questions at various times. Also, self evaluating is really subjective and my totally agree could very well be somewhat agree if you'd ask some of the people that know me in person.

I used to do drugs a lot when I was younger, but desu, the only ones I really enjoyed were LSD, MDMA and DXM. I stopped after a horrible acid trip and now just drink alcohol every now and then, which was my true passion all along. I used to be a heavy drinker, and honestly, I miss those parties.

How do anons do on this one>?
>The Following is a psychoanalytical test called the Szondi Test. This test was made by a Hungarian Psychoanalyst, Lรฉopold Szondi.
>Take a look at the 8 persons of the following picture:

>Now, look at them and study them closely.

>Which of these 8 do you find the most 'scary'?
>Really, really try to picture them in a dark alley, coming towards you. Or, who would you want the LEAST to be in an elevator with you? Overall, who gives you the creepiest vibes, or makes you feel disgusted and repulsed among these 8.

>Remember your answer.
>These are all pictures of patients of Szondi, all of which whom suffered different conditions. Szondi believed that who you pick will tell something about your personality. But not just anything about your personality. The part of you that you suppress or at least deny about yourself. maybe you pushed these feelings and desires down into your subconscious mind or maybe something you refused to accept about yourself. and act in opposition towards them.

>It's important to note that, whatever results you do come with, doesn't mean you have a mental condition. It's just that, you potentially have something deep within you that you compensate for.
>Most people find the results rather accurate, though. Take them with a grain of salt.

I have trouble finding time to read these days because abject misery and poverty. When you are homeless you have to worry about not getting arrested for sleeping on public land. At least i can read in jail but you dont get to choose or find the nice books if you dont have money or support.

My life has had lots of trials and conflict to overcome. Them being "opposite" is a cool piece of information. You don't think people can change that drastically, or perhaps have thought processes that aren't as well organized or understood? Maybe it doesn't make sense but I've been finding it quite hard to make sense of life nowadays.

I like gorey stuff and violence as well. I think its willful ignorance and avoidance that if anything leads to a more shallow smaller view of the world that can lead to conflict and pain when faced with reality. My life is pretty fucked up right now too. This feels empty to say, but in my mind i think its true, remember to not idolize suffering or evil, whatevere those things mean to you. Stay strong friend.

I love the exploration of relationships, maybe because I can't find one that works for me in this world. From my time here i feel /lit/ is probably prejudiced against jap stuff but sakura no uta made a beautiful depiction of WOLF vs SHEEP mindsets/drives in sexual lust or love, one wants to consume, one wants to be consumed, or perhaps thats their purpose and their disposition and society might make that painful or difficult. A wolf might love the sheep they eat, bringing them utmost joy, but torture themselves over the nature of the relationship or cost of satisfaction. I think there are many times in a relationship where one is a "wolf in sheeps clothing", wanting to "eat" desire, consume the nature and experience of another, to monopolize, to violate, then there are "sheep in wolves clothing" who can't help but want to be used or give and give and they are more interested in whether their partner or object of desire is the one being satisfied, but of course this can lead to self-destructive situations so desire is suppressed. What are your thoughts on that?

Vector S: The Sexual Drive

Personal love with passive devotion. In men: goal inversion. In women: excessive passivity in love.

Vector P: The Paroxysmal Drive

Crude affectivity of a shamefaced and inhibited ยซCainยป.

Vector Sch: The Schizophrenic, or Ego Drive

Hyperethical type of behavior: selflessness, compassion, conscientiousness, justice, sympathy, decency, orderliness, pedantry. Sensitivity. Mood swing effects; lacking in emotion on the outside, excited on the inside. Anxiety. Vanity, pride (particularly of knowledge and intellect). Self-control. Mental adjustment. Sexual weakness. Weakness of self-preservation. Stickiness, slowness. Pessimism, rumination, doubt, remorse. Superstition. Mechanical forced impulses. Tragic sadness and inconsistency.

Vector C: The Contact Drive

Mature contact relationship. Clinging to found love (friendship, career, interest object) without further seeking. Reliable attention ability.

Commentary:
S: Im not sure about "passive" devotion, but i find romance very important and sexually arousing though i think its expression and "devotion" are both actively and passively desirable. I can't stand any negative emotion towards me as a person from my partner, turns me off sexually and emotionally. Domination or masochism/sadism in the relationship are fine to me as long as love for the other is primary.

P: description is lacking to me but i do find resonancce with the name "cain" and i use it as a username sometimes. I don't think murder is glorious or anything but I just feel the character.

Sch: I think kind acts and goodness is sacred, i am extremely negative, "edgy" violent, dark to many people. I find that I talk a lot though and not sure its internal, but i have to supress most of what i am for survival.

C: I think loyalty is one of the most beautiful virtues and i find this description apt.

Overall I find it an interesting description but confirmation bias/ other self bias may make it difficult, but unlike others in the thread i really do think oneself is the only one that can know oneself best.

INTJ/P flipper here too. Interesting to see the apparent contradiction there

Just took the luscher color test, i find its descriptions eerily apt, but i would say my anxiety is probably higher than it predicts.

Honestly, if i wanted a normalfag or anyone to understand the way im feeling right now in my life, i would have them read this, not that they would care or understand probably.

upon closer inspection about half my list is about relationships. In Blind Owl the object of desire is a sort of intangible being that may or may not exist which either determins the narrator to resort to opium or she's a consequence of his opium use. Woman in the dunes - a man is blocked inside a sandy hole with an unknown woman and must toil every day in order to stay alive by removing the falling sand. Tonka, Face of another and A sorrow beyond dreams are more aspects of different kinds of relationships, with speculations of infidelity or relationship with one's mother.

Similar themes but a little more psychedelic imo. More religious symbolism. I really love it and I will never stop shilling it on this board.
