Yes. A good, concise argument makes the substance of the argument readily apparent, while a verbose argument conceals whatever substance there is.

>Physicists
They publish more metaphysical speculation than analytic philosophers these days. This image should really be another soijack "anti-metaphysical" philosopher writing just as much about how we should "shut up and calculate," but also "nooo! You cannot hecking say my saying there is nothing but calculating is a metaphysical claim! I can claim what exists and what doesn't, but I am not doing metaphysics so you cannot hecking criticize me. That's not how the gosh darn language game works!!!"

The only Chads in this scenario are completely unrepentant full-on Neoplatonists.

Definitely. Even in fiction. There was a time when a deeply researched description of the inner workings of a locomotive might have been the only chance for the audience to hear about the subject, but we've got internet now.

Older books are 600 pages long while modern ones are much shorter because most of that text is invested to describing shit to a fine grain detail

I don’t know, it’s remarkable. I was reading an essay by a Critical Theorist claiming that Hegel’s Concept is a mode of “domination”. So I suppose if I learn something new I’ve just “dominated” my ignorance and that’s le bad.

Because their criticisms are always incredibly ignorant, but you can’t so much as mention Hegel’s name here without 3 or 4 pseuds coming out of the woodwork to make vague accusations of “pointless abstraction” etc.

Hegel is incredibly based, he solved philosophy as it was traditionally conceived in the West. Every big name after him is more or less an anti-philosopher and at this point it’s all either Lacanian basket weaving or analytic wannabe STEM bullshit (“so… are ya a materialist or a panpsychist?”). This is because Hegel left nothing left to do. Hegelians online are pretty annoying and ignorant, this is too bad. But inquisitive minds will continue to rediscover him - unless people’s attention spans are so fried that they actually can’t read him. Unfortunately this is already happening.

Hegel seems to attract career academics where as Schopenhauer is more relatable to common educated folks. It also doesn't help Schopy said unflattering things about women either which academics like to put on a pedestal for some reason. I like both but let's be real here.

The main problem with online Hegelians is that they’re mostly Marxists. Aristotle is more important for Hegel than Marx or even Kant but none of these niggies have studied him. ~40% of the Phenomenology of Spirit is commentary on Aristotle.

They also will lose their minds if you use the terms “thesis, antithesis, synthesis” even though it’s a fine way to understand Hegel’s triadic schema. Then they’ll say “that’s not Hegel it’s Fichte!” even though it isn’t how Fichtean dialectic even works. But they’ve never read Fichte. Hegel, Kant, Marx is the outer limit of their reading.

Even with patience, you're better off reading a concise work with depth than a shallow, verbose work.
Verbosity rarely if ever implies depth.
