Why? Dostoevsky was a pretty messed up guy who was slammed with misfortune after misfortune. Addictions, Siberian prison camp, mock execution, kids and wife dying, more Siberian exiles, poverty, his own vices ruining his relationships, serious, eventually fatal chronic illness. And yet he achieved sublimity and peace and indicated the way beyond the underground life.
