You could start by reading everything John Lewis Gaddis has written, his entire career is centered on the study of the Cold War
Iron Curtain: The Crushing of Eastern Europe is a great place to start if you want to chronologically get a grasp of why the 60s, 70s and 80s were the way they were, if you had no understanding of what happened to Eastern Europe after 1944 it would be kind of confusing imo
Odd Westads The Global Cold War which is probably the best way to get a sense of what the standoff looked like from the global south
