>I was extremely impressed with Marya's reaction to her father's death! Tolstoy really has an eye for the human. In particular, I'm wondering if he was influenced by Rousseau's account of empathy in writing this scene.

>Really enjoying it, though I'm not sure I 100% understand the account Vollmann is giving of "changing shirts" and personal transformation/staying the same generally. It'll probably make more sense once I'm done though.
