I don’t have it in front of me and it was many years ago. I was in a coffee shop that had people write in cards for what they were thankful for. The shop put them up on a dedicated wall for all to read. While waiting for coffee, I scanned through and teared up at one about a sister thanking her brother. Her card explained that at a young age she had kidney failure and was close to dying. The doctor suggested to her family that a transplant was possible and could save her life. Her brother was the same age. The family (I’m assuming parents) asked their son if he was willing to offer one of his kidneys to his sister. He thought for a long time then responded with a yes. Before being moved to the operating room, the brother started to weep. His parents assumed he was scared and tried to calm him. He told them that he was scared that this was the last moments of his life and that he’d never see them again. The boy thought that he was going to die in the operation to save his sister. He offered his life for hers. It was very touching. Thinking back now I’m not sure how realistic all of it was but god damn it got me good.

My family has always hated me even though i wanted to be a good big brother. I was born a freak and no amount of offering to help study, play games, or help with homework will fix that.

I don't remember but this reminded me that my little brother once cried after reading one of my poems. Only a tiny bit but I saw his tears. It was a pretty juvenile poem I wrote in high-school about my mounting mental illness, though very metaphorically. We are not close anymore but I'm pretty sure he views me as a total lunatic now. I don't think he likes me, which makes me incredibly sad

He did. It was his presumption that he would die so his sister could live was what made it so touching.

Must be the other way around cause I was in that coffee shop over a decade ago while that film came out recently.
