what are some that come to mind?

Dino Buzzati isn't a horror author, but some his short stories play with the uncanny. Specifically from his collection Catastrophe; The Opening of a Road and Seven Floors.

Cormac threw a few uncanny moments into his books.
The judge with his coin trick in Blood Meridian (might have just been slight of hand)
Lester Ballard seeing the kid on the bus near the end and being disturbed that the kid looked like himself at that age.
A couple moments in Suttree. The witch. The clairvoyant twins. I think he sees some sort of little people out in the woods when he decides to be a hermit for a while. But he thinks he might have been hallucinating.
