This is a bait thread, but I agree with the sentiment. The amount of "urdur this character is bad cause X happens so Y MUST happen as some other authors do" I've seen makes me seethe. Not just in /lit/ but other places too

its usually that it is following trite conventions set 200 years ago thats the actual problem. exhibit a:

you cant escape style. you can only resort to boring and unoriginal styles, which does make the book less good.
