He’s right that our history is a lie but he’s retarded to think that’s all that nonfiction covers. If he read more he could probably put forth better arguments than “I’m never wrong about anything”, which is something he unironically often says when getting into the nitty-gritty of his beliefs.

Non-fiction as in history? Then it really boils down to how the author views themselves - this will be the basis of the narrative weave. Go forth with caution.
The same applies with fictional literature but the important difference is that any author worth their salt will try to play with this fact.

Most of the best fiction writers are curious people who never restrict themselves in what they read. You will read anything about something you’re interested in, which will often include nonfiction. And the quality of your writing will likely improve just because you’re drawing from new sources. For example, reading nonfiction nature writing is critical if you don’t want to reuse the same retarded phrases like “the gray wolf growled angrily.” Stop giving animals human traits, stop giving emotional attributes to plants and mountains. Use synesthetic description to restore that visceral accuracy to nature that is so often lost in the process of language.

charls is too much of a tryhard unfortunately, as all are streamers. i used to be into his schtick at one point, but it's really all just a game of smoke and mirrors.
and i'm pretty sure that by non-ficton he's talking about philosophical works. that's supposed to be the corruptive force when it comes to receiving and accepting revelation, which is what he's been all about. he does like to go on tangents about space being fake and whatever, but who cares by now. the truly based thing he did was calling out sam hyde for being a faggy nerd in that one video where he's soaked in red light.

I read nonfiction on occasion but I rarely find it as satisfying to read as fiction. Usually I will only bother with nonfiction if I want to learn about something, and once I get what I need from the book I don't bother with it again, except as a reference tool.

Nonfiction books are useful research tools for writing fiction. I've read books on nautical exploration, polar exploration, the SAS Survival handbook, the crusades, revolutions, animal husbandry, mountain climbing, old travel journals, and one of the most inspiring things I've ever read was a journal belonging to a friend's great grandfather about his experiences fighting in France in WWI. All of these books were monumental in inbuing my works with authenticity.

I do think that he's struggling to some degree, but he definitely puts an extra emphasis on the crazy shit he says online to attract and maintain an audience of paypigs, feeding them tiny little crumbs along the way. He knows that he has to portray a character, and fair play to him, he managed to make a pretty good living out of it. I say this as a guy who loved his intial post-MDE output.

Humans can't even see the truth, much less communicate it. For a book to truly be nonfictional the author would have to fit the entire reality inside, because the simple act of curating content creates a narrative and introduces distortion. Boundaries between fiction and non-fictions are completely arbitrary.

It depends on the kind of "non-fiction" you read. Although undoubtedly literature is food for the soul, and is thus superior.

If you ever watched some of his streams, you recognize that a single non-fiction book could completely collapse his unhinged beliefs. Having said that, I do regret excluding fiction from my reading list for about 5 years.
