I started reading it and up until de Jive chapter it was an enjoyable read.
His other books are better though. [Girl with Curious Hair] and [A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again] were both more memorable and easier to read than IJ.

One of my favorite books ever, you should really read it. The fact that you're stuck on this shitty website means it will resonate with you a lot.

What everyone's favorite death in IJ? I like Clipperton blowing his brains out and Mario personally cleaning up the mess, with all the ETA kids hearing him clumsily fumble around while scrubbing up the blood in the Clipperton suite.

You don't have to, it's funny and made me reflect on the things I consume, both media and chemicals, and with that reflection started making better decisions and I'm better off for it. That being said I feel like it just won't click for some people if they can't relate to it, being a 19-20 year old American collegefag whose casual substance use was just teetering on that tightrope over dependence and addiction and majority of my free time spent consuming passive entertainment while being aware of how much of a waste of time it was when I read it made a lot of the parts really hit home. I think it's good in terms of objective literary merit but I can easily see someone not liking it if the problems the characters face aren't something they can relate to.

I tried reading it and it was the most schizo word vomit I ever read.

The only type of person I imagine would like that book are stupid low IQ communist art hoes doing performative book reading.

Wow anon, is IJ the only piece of 20th century literature you've read?

It's good. It does have a hint of le quirky gnarwhal baconzors millenial writing in some parts (the wheelchair assassins are the worst) but it's not nearly as bad as you'd expect. Aside from a few small instances of that it's certainly worth reading and very entertaining.

As a Canadian the wheelchair assassins barely registered as such with me. For us it's hard not to get fixated on their primary disability, they are Quebecers

Unfortunately it's just good. The parts with Hal Incandenza are infuckingsufferable though, you can just feel DFW preening himself in the mirror

You probably canโ€™t imagine many people. At tops maybe five, six if your parents decide to make a kid that isnโ€™t a failure.

DFW's writing is not for everyone, most can't fit contemporary style/themes in their heads, I get it. His short story Forever Overhead comes to mind reading a lot of retards saying IF is trash. Grow up, in both the literal and literary sense.

As a "smart kid" who ended up being a total fucking degenerate drug addict loser, i found this book to be highly relatable. Also reading the Pale King after getting my shit sorted and choosing a more "boring" office type life, was very resonant

I was reading this on the subway and some guy came up to me and said "Hey nice book, are you an intellectual?" I didn't know what to say so I said "No....I don't think so?". And he said "That's why you are reading Infinate Jest" and walked off

what did he mean?

Well, if you're reading IJ, you're most likely not puffed-up enough to go "nyeh heh heh why yes I *am* an intellectual, you shouldn't even need to ask". I WAS gonna say "egocentric enough", but DFW was egocentric, only that in the suicidal way.

If you read this, your iq goes up by 50 but consciously speaking it goes down by 10. Thats very weird, but, still, its really worth a read.

I mean that, in your subsconsious actions, you will be more wise. You will know "Something is up" or "This feels wrong, for some reason". However, you will be unable to explain it and will probably still make the wrong choices unless you are already intellectually gifted/knowledgable.
