Now that the dust has settled, how did it become so successful?

Children are impressionable and bad at logical reasoning, which is why fantasy novels which doesn't require logic appeal to them. Also Harry Potter is characteristically female so a lot of young boys trooned out because of him

The first couple books were okay when she was channeling Roald Dahl before transitioning to bloated grimdark slop vainly attempting to be an epic saga. Also there was an aggressive marketing push by the publisher trying to get more kids to read. There was also a streisand effect where christcucks and some other groups tried getting it banned which made ppl want to check it out.

It managed to sneakily repackage hyper-racist aristocracy into a sort of liberal appearance. The wizards are a blood nobility who are so incredibly better than muggles than it's not even funny. Being let in to this group and being allowed to belong to it is the absolute peak of escapism for our social status obsessed ape brains. The magic stuff just makes it feel even more special and exclusive and secret.

Other than that the characters and world building are good and the narrative device of the school year gives her a bunch of easy plots.

It was always woke slop. I can't even watch the movies now when I see random nonwhites being inserted into scenes.
So yeah, it was leftist propaganda and the leftists funded its marketing in order to make globohomo mainstream and to shit on natsoc, with Slytherin and their notion of pure blood (racial hygiene).

"Magic" is the midwit's idea of creating plots.

>harry potter is leftist
Potter is and always was profoundly Liberal. There is no trace of leftism in those books.

Anyway the books succeeded because the first three were fun escapism that encouraged you to imagine yourself in the world -- what house would you be in? sure, your parents aren't wizards, but neither are Hermione's! etc.

They really fall apart around book 4 when they tried to get more serious, but kids were already invested at that point.

I think the Order of the Phoenix can be sort of read as a leftist paramilitary but it does resolve into a clearly liberal status quo afterward.

I think for boomers like Rowling leftism as a meme functions as a kind of "emergency tough guy measure to combat fascism". But they think it's dangerous in its own right

Obviously this has nothing at all to do with actual economic leftism

imo rowling is building on a key liberal fantasy: feeling like a radical freedom fighter while only supporting broadly palatable center-left political positions. every liberal wants to imagine that they would have been a radical abolitionist despite never having been radical about anything.

Easy to read, appeals to girls and boys equally, whimsical humour, fun fantasy scenario, aged up with its target demographic so they kept buying them as they got older

Rowling had the audacity to introduce time travel halfway through her magic series to advance the plot, ignored it for a bit, then cleaned it up with a lazy ass pull.
