When the book said humanity would send its entire fleet to meet the probe my first thought was "that's a bad idea, what if they send something that can destroy the entire fleet"
I like the books so far but the characters act like cartoons

>It was at this point that people noticed a strange contrast: The mechanical arm was obviously designed purely as a functional object, with a rugged steel frame and exposed hydraulics that felt complicatedly technological and crudely industrial. But the droplet was perfect in shape, a smoothly gleaming, solid drop of liquid whose exquisite beauty erased all functional and technical meaning and expressed the lightness and detachment of philosophy and art.
The moment I knew they were fucked. The technology difference was so large that their weapons of destruction looked like art. I imagine the rest of the fleet looking sleek as hell too.

Three Body Problem. Baby's first sci-fi, full of genuine cartoon logic. I'm not a stickler for "hard" sci-fi but everyone in this book acts like a complete idiot and is hailed as a genius for coming up with middle-school-tier ideas.

the prose is wretched but the ideas are passable and occasionally sublime. it's worth it just to peek inside the chinese psychosphere (scary)

Is this the 'droplet attack'? I watched the show and everybody said that the droplet attack was going to be the season 2 equivalent of the cheese wire boatmurdered moment from season 1.

That's hilarious. Modern water navies don't even do that.
