STATIONARY HOBBY
Show off your pens, fountain pens, ink, paper, journals, etc.

Is this the right board to talk about this? I can't for the life of me find a relevant board other than /po/ and that's only for making shit with paper.

I saw a really nice ink pen once for 200 that was expensive and I wanted to buy it but I do all of my writing here on this board, so it would just go to waste.

I find physically journalling my thoughts, especially as a new shitty writer that's still getting started out, helps in actually sinking in information and reinforcing it. I dont even need to reread what I wrote, I just end up remembering things I wrote physically faster.

Just some pens under $50 for me. I bought a LAMY Safari last year as a birthday present to myself. This week I ordered an Asvine P20 piston fill pen, blue-black ink and some more notebooks.

oh cool. I had a lamy safari back in undergrad (holy shit it's been 4 years since undergrad WTFF) and I loved it the whole time. Sadly it finally fucked off after 3ish years of a lot of use and now I lost it. I was a NEET for a bit between undergrad and grad school so I ended up using a platinum preppy and a pilot varsity, but im a wagecuck again and just bought a Faber Castel NEO slim like today. Just waiting for it to come in the mail.

neat thread. i'm about to convert a Platinum preppy to eyedropper mode.
for notebooks, I really do love Clairefontaine

What are some good highlighters or pens to mark books with. New printed books with cheap ass paper. Usually I use pencil but I need some spice.

pens can't even come close to the utility and cheapness of a pencil. most pen ink ISN'T lightfast, yet abraham lincoln's pencil scribblins are still relatively legible. as it stands, pens are a sign of status and are ultimately mundane. pencils are high precision bonded materials that are sturdy, long lasting, and yet ephemeral in an honest way, each pencil lives and dies, whereas a pen is some lifeless vessel, a ship from one place to the next. a pencil is a dying thing, giving its essence to creation.

From left to right: Some cheap chinese one with a (very smooth) TWISBI nib, another chinese one, a Visconti, and then a Graf von Faber Castell, which is my daily use one. Really lovely pen, love using it to write. The joy of using a fountain pen isn't something you can recreate with a ballpoint, much less a keyboard.

There's something about a better mind-muscle connection leading to the better integration of ideas, and the slowness of the medium being somehow more meditative in this digital life. Collecting, I agree, is silly, but it's a pretty innocuous one. I have a few fountain pens, and mainly write using a graphgear 500. Does the job.

Writing by hand does use a different part of your brain. I find it helps with editing stories. It stops you from endlessly deleting and rewriting sentences and forces you to rewrite it just once.

usually i just use one hardbound notebook and end up only wanting to use that for everything
something about spiral bound notebooks makes them seem disposable
whats the best size that is versatile for basically everything from drawing to lists

It's the same as reading a physical book—there's a mild benefit from having each word and phrase in a definite physical point in space.

the raspberry pi 3 has issues with a power supply IC - it tends to short itself and the controller when you plug it in. it was so bad that rpi foundation actually asked for broken units to investigate the problem. so yeah, you need a bit more than that

I also specified some people not everyone because I know it worked on me, I have a way easier time writing on paper than I do typing, even if I type fast. Typing in a word document just feels draining in a way I dont like and the distraction to switch to a game or scroll 4shit is always there.

correct

this is my sheaffer 300, it's great, glides smoothly, faultlessly reliable (even though I've dropped it and bent the nib back with pliers a few times) and I bought more Sheaffers. their quality is all over the place, the Intensity wrote flawlessly, the VFM couldn't even write at all.

Are these pens refillable in some way? Does using such a pen have any ecological justification?
Anonymous No.24650015 [Report]
>>24649907
>refillable
yes, in fact they're built that way. Now we use ink cartridges, but bottled ink with a reusable reservoir inserted inside the pen is very common and popular, also you can also just fill the inside of the pen with ink and not bother with the cartridges or reservoir.

i'm consuming the writer product. paying money for the writer things. like a writer. i am a writer and i identify as a writer, buying writer things, taking pictures of writer things. talking about writer things and about the buying of writer things. i do not write. i am a writer. what is better is that a good portion of my income goes to writer things. only a writer would have a good portion of their income go to writer things. i buy the writer product. i think of myself with the writer product. i am a writer.
